Fruitful Community Tour

Enjoy a special community interaction and learn about the interesting cross over between modern day life and old tribal beliefs and traditions. We will visit a satellite community on the edge of the greater Acornhoek which borders the Kruger National Park. See how a community project is working with the locals to educate, empower and implement sustainable methods of income, all the while instilling a sense of respect and understanding as to the importance of conserving the fauna and flora of the greater Kruger area.
This fascinating visit will take you through the project library, moringa tree (super food) grove and the creche where the most vulnerable members of the village are cared for and fed each day. You’ll learn about the project’s sustainable methods of food production and help prepare the kiddies lunch in the outdoor kitchen.
Take a walk through the village and meet the locals who will demonstrate how they weave traditional grass mats (have a go yourself), visit the village Sangoma (Witch Doctor)and sample a traditional meal.
After this most enriching morning activity we will make our way along the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains with Savannah Bush Veld on either side of the road, to our next destination the heart of South Africa’s fruit basket. We will visit a citrus farm and take an informative and insightful walk through the orchards enjoying the fresh air and
magical scenery. Having worked up a hearty appetite, lunch will be served, on a harvest table using fresh seasonal produce, at a serene location in the orchard.
Once everyone is well fed and ready for the afternoons activities we’ll hop back in the vehicle to take a short drive to the farm packhouse. As the fruit farms of this area contribute to a large portion of South Africa’s agricultural export revenue, the pack house/drying room (dependant on the time of the year) is an integral part of the process. The tour will give you a new understanding of how the fruits are washed, graded and packed for export. This colourful, vibrant busy operation, viewed from aerial walkways, is an experience not to be missed!
We’ll wind down the day with a short hop across to the Blyde River where we can enjoy delicious late afternoon drinks on the rocks, with bubbling rapids nearby and the sun’s rays cast across the mountainous backdrop!
